You’re Not Drinking a Lot of Water
Have you been skimping on the water? Water is important if you want to lose weight. It helps you stay fuller longer — by suppressing your appetite — and keeps you from overeating when it is mealtime. Also, if you’re dehydrated, your body can’t function properly and it will store more fat so that it can.
So how much water should you drink? According to recent studies, you should drink one-half of your body weight in ounces — as long as you’re exercising enough to burn it out. That means up to 12 cups per day for some people.
You’ve Ignored the Importance of Protein
High protein diets have been shown to help shed those pounds. Protein leaves your body satisfied longer and gives you the energy you need to convert fat into muscle. Women should have 40 to 80 grams of protein each day ideally.
Your Job Requires You to Sit All Day
When your body isn’t in motion, it won’t burn calories. If your job requires you to sit for long periods of time, you won’t be able to compensate for that inactivity even with exercise. When you can, get up from your desk throughout the day and do a little cardio. It doesn’t have to be intense — just taking a walk from one side of the office to another could be all it takes. Set a timer and get up from your desk once every hour.
You Work Out Too Much
Yes, you can work out too much. Your body needs ample time to recover!
If you are taking a "gung-ho" approach to weight loss and hitting the gym everyday, you're probably doing yourself more harm than good.
Try to keep your workouts to 2 - 3 times per week, especially when starting out. This will enable your body to rebuild the muscle tissue you break down during your workout, all while increasing your resting metabolism (which will provide residual fat burning effects).
Also, make sure you're using the right measuring mechanism...
If you’re working out and eating right, that extra poundage on the scale might be muscle — not fat.
Instead of looking solely at weight, look at the changes in your body composition.
After all, adding lean muscle and removing an equal amount of fat (in terms of weight) is a marker of success, not something you should be frustrated with.
